How to Choose a CNC Lathe for Mixed Export Orders

Start from the part, not the machine

List the diameter range, length, material and monthly volume of the parts you actually run. A flat bed lathe such as the CK6150 handles a wide variety of medium-size parts at lower cost, while a vertical turning center such as the VTC600 suits short, heavy flange and ring parts with faster loading.

Check the spindle and chuck combination

Spindle bore diameter limits the bar size you can feed through. Chuck size, hydraulic or manual, and tailstock type determine how quickly an operator can change over between jobs.

Plan for automation later

If you expect to add a bar feeder or gantry loader, specify the interface at order stage. Retrofitting automation on a machine not prepared for it usually costs more than ordering it initially.

Ask for a test cut

Send a drawing before ordering. A test cut on the actual machine gives you cycle time, tool list and measured accuracy data you can compare between suppliers.
